Why Trains?
Leander was established in 1882 on land sold by the Austin and Northwestern Railroad Co. The town was named in honor of Leander “Catfish” Brown, one of the railroad officials responsible for the completion of the line. The railroad established Leander, and today it is the only stop outside the city of Austin on the Capital Metro rail. To commemorate and honor both our past and future, the Leander Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center is proud to introduce the Leander Trail of Trains.
“The concrete trains are trademarked and will only be available through the Chamber. They are a unique and beautiful way to celebrate the heritage of our community! Our goal is to have a custom train in every corner of the community,” said Bridget Brandt, Leander Chamber of Commerce President.
About the Project
The Leander Trail of Trains is a community-driven initiative launched by the Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center in partnership with the City of Leander. Originally envisioned by the 2017 Leadership Leander Class, this project celebrates the city’s history while offering a fun way for residents and visitors to explore local businesses.
Each train along the trail is uniquely decorated by local artists and placed at landmark locations and businesses throughout Leander. Through a blend of art, storytelling, and interactive experiences, the Trail of Trains aims to highlight Leander’s heritage and drive growth by encouraging traffic to businesses around the city.
